An innovative green oak framed structure
A highly decorative oak framed theatre stage featuring extensive large curved timbers, bespoke designed and crafted to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the award-winning Larch Cottage Nurseries garden centre in Melkinthorpe, Cumbria, openning to the public.
The stage front is framed by a pair of sling braces and a central collar, all carefully shaped to create a perfect partial circle facing west towards the mountains of the Lake District, whilst the stage rear showcases a lattice of interlocking curved brace and strut timbers to support a large decorative window facing eastward to the Pennines. A protruding frontal canopy picks up the organic shapes within the main structure to add shelter to the stage front. Measuring 5m wide by 4m deep by 3.8m to apex, the whole structural frame comprises 3.3 tonnes of oak.
